Louis Royal told the inquest into the death of his wife Linda she was in terrible pain after the procedure.
The 50-year-old mother-of-three died at St James's Hospital in September 2008.
She had been transferred there from Mount Carmel Hospital in Dublin when she became acutely ill.
Linda Royal, from Kingswood Heights in Tallaght, had attended Mount Carmel Hospital for a hysterectomy procedure seven days before her transfer to St James's.
The inquest has also been hearing from the pathologist who carried out a post mortem examination on the body of Linda Royal.
Dr Maureen McMenamin said her opinion was that Mrs Royal died from multi-organ failure due to septic shock and septicaemia.
The hearing before City Coroner Dr Brian Farrell is expected to last two days.
