Members of an independent group who will be examining the deaths of children in the care of the Health Service Executive over the past decade have said there will be no whitewash.
The group also said it will be fearless in ensuring that all the information is made public.
Child law expert Geoffrey Shannon and Norah Gibbons, a Director of Advocacy at Barnardos, said they would be looking at the reviews carried out into the deaths of 23 children in State care who died since 2000.
They added that if information arises about other cases they will consider looking at them.
However they said they would not be examining cases which are the subject of ongoing investigations.
They expect to start the work in the coming weeks.
