The Unite trade union has announced that 83% of craft workers at Aer Lingus have voted to accept the airline's proposed restructuring plan.

Unite official Brian Gormley said the strong result in favour of the proposals showed craft workers are prepared to continue to support the company.

Earlier, the airline said it would delay tomorrow's planned publication of its preliminary financial results for last year because of uncertainty surrounding the plan.

The plan has been accepted by pilots, ground operations staff and middle management, but rejected by cabin crew.

Aer Lingus has said its board will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow to approve steps now necessary to achieve the €97m of savings it needs.
