Gardaí say the body of the man recovered yesterday in Cratloe, Co Clare, is that of 48-year-old Francie Green who has been missing for more than two months.
A post mortem on Mr Green's body has been carried out in the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.
Mr Green was last seen near his apartment in Hartstonge Street in Limerick on 28 November.
Last month, gardaí arrested a 27-year-old man and questioned him about Mr Green's disappearance.
The man was released and a file was prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
