2239 Cork Airport will remain closed tonight. It hopes to reopen at 4am in time for first flight departures.
2229 A further shipment of 3,500 tonnes of salt is due to arrive at the Port of Cork on Monday on board MV Blue Bay.

2111 Meath County Council says reservoirs in many parts of
the county are critically low and has appealed to all consumers to make every effort to conserve water.
2058 95 Defence Forces personnel , 27 4x4 vehicles and two helicopters were deployed today in a range of taskings following requests from the Civil Autorities due to the severe weather conditions.
2045 Cork Airport says it will remain closed until at least 10pm. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for details about cancellations and rescheduled flights.
2005 Cork Airport is closed until 9pm.
1946 Clare County Council says that national primary routes throughout County Clare are passable with caution as heavy snow continues to affect many parts of the County.
1841 Belfast City airport reports some delays to incoming flights.
1822 All flights at Cork Airport have been suspended due to the bad weather. All intending passengers are advised to check with their airlines and the airport's website.

1805 Although frost forecast for tonight will be milder than recently, temperatures could still drop to -3C.
Rain, sleet and snow is forecast to extend northwards from southern countries where there have been heavy falls reported.
1750 It is planned that 1,400km of motorways, commuter routes and bus routes in Dublin will be gritted overnight.
A total of 35 gritters will be in operation across the city.
1739 Michael Phillips, civil engineer with Dublin City Council, says there is currently a very serious situation in relation to water supplies.
Demand for water has reached the highest ever levels in the Dublin region.
1728 In Waterford, it is snowing on all roads, motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary journeys. Particularly icy on the Kilmeadan/Kill Rd (R681).
1706 Heavy snow has been falling in Kerry. AA Roadwatch says care is needed in all areas. Conor Pass is closed.
1657 Cork City Council is advising the public that water levels have reduced significantly due to increased consumer demand and the high level of leaks arising in the recent severe weather conditions.
1631 A spokesperson for Dublin City Council says about 1,400 staff have been treating roads and pavements today.
The council says gritting has been going well, as rock salt had been stored in response to weather warnings which had forecast further snow this weekend.

1613 Iarnród Éireann says the 11.05 Galway to Heuston service tomorrow has been cancelled.
1554 Snow is affecting all counties in Munster this afternoon.
In Cork, There are treacherous conditions on the N22 Cork/Mallow Rd at Rathduff. Rathduff village is almost impassable.
1536 The Air Corps has flown in emergency supplies of fodder to animals on farms based on the islands of Lough Ree.

Many large sections of the River Shannon are now covered in thick ice and gardaí are working with the army to get supplies to stockholders in the region.
1522 The Irish Blood Transfusion Service says people attending its Dublin clinic are being advised that they will have to wait about two hours due to the numbers turning up to donate.
Clinics will be extending their hours as a result.
1513 Local authorities around the country say they are seeing record demand for water.
More problems are expected in the coming week as supplies in reservoirs are very low. Householders are being asked to conserve water.

1510 National road temperatures are starting to improve, according to AA Roadwatch. However compacted snow and icy conditions are still an issue in Connacht and Leinster.
1502 The Minister for Transport has defended his holiday during the recent severe weather.
Noel Dempsey insisted that nothing more could have been done during the weather crisis if he was in the country.
Mr Dempsey returned from Malta today.
1450 Outbreaks of sleet or snow, turning to rain in coastal districts, will extend northwards from the southern half of the country this evening and early tonight.

1445 At City of Derry Airport, there have been delays on the arrival and departure of two Ryanair flights from Birmingham and Liverpool.
1439 At Belfast International Airport, an EasyJet flight from Krakow due in this afternoon has been cancelled because of the weather in Poland.
There is also a delay on the arrival of an EasyJet flight from London Stansted.
1412 Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that all rail routes are continuing to operate during the freezing conditions. However it has revised some services - starting tomorrow.

1339 UCD will remain closed on Monday. The college will make a decision tomorrow in relation to the rest of the week.
1333 Met Éireann says that temperatures will fluctuate during the coming week and there will be a gradual thaw. It says 'a much more significant' thaw will occur from next Friday onwards.
1318 All Trinity College Dublin examinations scheduled for Monday 11 January have been postponed. Further details will be posted on the TCD website.
1257 A further shipment of 3,500 tonnes of salt is due to arrive at the Port of Cork tomorrow morning on board MV Blue Bay.
This is the third shipment of salt through the Port of Cork in just over a week
1234 There are about 300 Civil Defence personnel currently deployed across the country to help deal with the weather crisis, 150 of them in Dublin.

1145 A spokeperson for Dublin Airport says the airport is open and operating normally at this time. She advised that intending passengers should check with their airlines before turing up at the airport.
1135 The ISPCA has called on pet owners to be particularly vigilant of their animals during the current cold snap to avoid cases of unnecessary suffering arising.
1128 About 120 defence forces personnel have been deployed today, mostly in Meath, Leitrim and Kildare.
They are primarily providing support to the HSE.
Defence forces personnel are also assisting the meals-on-wheels service, gritting roads and delivering fodder.

1118 Due to worsening weather and underfoot conditions, UCD has closed the campuses at Belfield and Blackrock until tomorrow for health and safety reasons.
1114 There are delays to a number of flights at Dublin Airport and there have also been a number of cancellations. Passengers are asked to contact their airlines for information.
1111 The three airports in Northern Ireland; City of Derry, Belfast City and Belfast International, are operating normally.
1048 Bus Éireann services between Limerick and Dublin have resumed from 10.30am. Services should operate as scheduled with some delays for remainder of day subject to road and weather conditions.

0934 Everything is running as normal at Dublin Airport at the moment, although there are delays for arrivals.

0912 The latest update from AA Roadwatch warns that national road temperatures are still well below zero. Compacted snow and icy conditions to contend with, particularly around Connaught and in Leinster in Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford, Offaly, Kildare & Laois.
0849 Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that all rail services are continuing to operate around the network today during the freezing conditions, on all routes, and the company will be maximizing the capacity of rail services.
0840 Services on a number of Dublin Bus routes which were cancelled yesterday have been restored. The only route still cancelled is the 65.
0810 3,500 tonnes of of salt is due to arrive in Cork tommorrow. Dublin City Council says 200 tonnes will arrive in the capital today, where Dawson Street was closed for a time last night.
