Remains of late cardinal arrive in ArmaghSunday 03 January 2010 22.06
The remains of the late Cardinal Cahal Daly arrived in St Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh this evening.
The 92-year-old Cardinal, who will be buried in the cathedral grounds on Tuesday, died last week after a short illness.
He will be buried in the Armagh Cathedral grounds on Tuesday.
In a statement issued from the Vatican yesterday, Pope Benedict paid tribute to the Cardinal for his sustained efforts in the promotion of peace and justice in Northern Ireland.
Meanwhile, the North's First Minister Peter Robinson has issued a statement of condolence on the death of Cardinal Daly.
The DUP leader had been criticised for not releasing such a statement since the Cardinal's death.
However, Mr Robinson said he had ‘been indisposed due to family issues’.
In his statement he also said Cardinal Daly was ‘consistent in his opposition to the use of violence to advance political objectives’.
