Boy found guilty of Belfast murder

A 16-year-old boy has been found guilty at Belfast Crown Court of murdering a man in front of his seven-year-old child and heavily pregnant wife.

John Mongan was killed after a gang of three males burst into his home in West Belfast in February 2008.

During the murder trial, the assistant state pathologist told the court that he had identified between 40 and 50 wounds on Mr Mongan's body.

Dr Peter Ingram said they had been inflicted by at least two bladed weapons, possibly an axe and a sword.

Yesterday two Derry men, 34-year-old Christopher Stokes and 38-year-old Edward Gabriel Stokes, were also found guilty of the murder.

Mr Mongan's widow, Julia, was due to give birth the day after her husband's murder.

During the trial she told Belfast Crown Court that she had pleaded with the three intruders not to attack him and that she and her seven-year-old daughter had witnessed his murder.
