A court has been told that a 15-month-old baby girl who was killed in Northern Ireland last week may have been sexually assaulted before her death.
30 year-old Barry Michael McCarney has been remanded in custody charged with murdering the child, Mille Martin from Enniskillen.
A PSNI Detective Inspector said medical staff at the Erne hospital in Enniskillen where Millie Martin was admitted in a lifeless condition may have been sexually assaulted sometime before she died.
He told Omagh magistrates' court police had been contacted after the toddler was brought there last Thursday night.
Questioned by a defence solicitor the detective admitted that police had no scientific evidence when the injuries that killed Millie were inflicted.
He added that further tests would be carried out to establish such dates.
The detective confirmed that throughout four days of interviews the accused had denied the murder charge.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Enniskillen by video link on 11 January.
