BA said in a statement that it was 'seeking an injunction to prevent the strike going ahead,' one day after thousands of cabin crew voted to stop working over the busy festive period in a row over working conditions.

Thousands of members of the Unite union backed industrial action in a ballot, paving the way for a series of strikes over Christmas.

Strikes would cost the airline tens of millions of euro every day, hitting flights at one of the busiest times of year for the industry.
