Kenneth Collopy, of Kilonan, Ballysimon in Co Limerick, is charged with the murder of Daniel Fitzgerald at Cloughnadromin, Ballysimon last Tuesday.
The 24-year-old carpenter died after he was shot at a house on the main Limerick to Tipperary road.
There was a large Garda presence for tonight's brief court hearing, held at Limerick District Court.
Detective Garda Dave Nolan gave evidence of arresting and formally charging the accused at 9.15 tonight at Roxboro Garda Station.
The court heard the teenager made no reply to the charge.
Defence solicitor John Herbert was assigned to represent Mr Collopy, who was granted free legal aid.
Judge Aeneas McCarthy remanded the 19-year-old in custody to Limerick Prison until 17 December when he is due to appear before the same court via video link.
