Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said it would have been 'right to remove' Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq even without evidence that he had weapons of mass destruction.
Mr Blair said it was the notion of Mr Hussein as a threat to the region that had tilted him in favour of the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
He said that without the claims of weapons of mass destruction, it would have been necessary to 'use and deploy different arguments'.
Mr Blair is due to give evidence to the inquiry into the build-up and aftermath of the Iraq war early next year.
In an interview to be broadcast on BBC tomorrow, Mr Blair said his religious beliefs had not influenced his decision to go to war.
