Man stabbed to death in Arklow

A man has been fatally stabbed during a robbery at a shop in Arklow, Co Wicklow.

Gardaí have launched a murder investigation following the incident which happened just before 8pm in the Coolgreany Road area.

It is understood a woman was working in the shop when a man entered it armed with a knife.

It is still unclear what happened subsequently but a man in his mid 40s, thought to be the owner of the shop, was stabbed and died from his injuries less than an hour later.

The man's body remains at the scene, which has been sealed off.

Gardaí have appealed to the public for help and are particularly interested in establishing the identity of a man described as being 6'4" wearing a dark jacket who was in the area at the time.
