EU approves overhaul of telecoms law
Tuesday, 24 November 2009 20:43The EU has approved an overhaul of telecoms law which has implications for Eircom's push to crack down on illegal downloading.
Today, the European Parliament agreed a telecoms directive which includes a provision for 'internet freedom'.
The provision forbids internet service providers (ISPs) like Eircom from disconnecting illegal filesharers.
Eircom had introduced a three-strikes rule in January against its customers who were downloading illegally.
