Six One News: Philip Bromwell reports that a group representing Irish chefs is calling on the Government to establish a system to support small food producers
Euro-toques Ireland, the Irish branch of the European Community of Chefs and Cooks, wants a safety net to be put in place to defend artisan production and encourage rural enterprise.
The group claims regulatory requirements and compliance costs are making many businesses uncompetitive.
It says producers are being asked to invest in facilities, but they will never be able to recoup the cost.
The call was made a reception in Dublin for the 2009 Euro-toques Food Awards.
