Kenny says banker pay cap must remain

listen

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has said his party entirely disagrees with the views of the Governor of the Central Bank in relation to banking executives' pay.

Media reports this morning quoted Patrick Honohan as saying that banks risked losing out on the best candidates for top jobs if they could not offer competitive pay packets.

Speaking on Morning Ireland Brendan Keenan of the Irish Independent said Mr Honahan made the point earlier this week that putting 'flat salary caps' on bankers was 'not the right way'.

However, Mr Kenny said the cap on bankers' pay must remain in place until the banks have been fully rehabilitated, which he said could take some time.
