Dáil rejects tightening of trafficking laws

The Dáil has rejected a Fine Gael motion calling on the government to tighten up legislation in relation to human trafficking.

The motion rejected, included the criminalising of those who use prostitutes.

Minister of State Barry Andrews has denied Garda and Government inaction on human trafficking.

Speaking on the second day of Private Members' debate on the issue he said he admitted there is a problem.

Mr Andrews said that there was no cause for complacency, but that the Garda and the Government were entitled to some credit for initiatives taken.
