Woman killed in Dublin road crash

A 53-year-old woman has died and a man is in a critical condition following a road crash in Dublin.

A car struck a number of pedestrians near Kavanagh's pub on the Malahide Road in Fairview at around 2.15am this morning.

The woman was taken to the Mater Hospital, where she died shortly after arrival.

A man in his 30s was taken to the Mater Hospital with head injuries and has since been transferred to the Beaumont Hospital. He is said to be in a critical condition.

A man and a woman in their 30s were also treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the car was arrested at the scene and gardaí say investigations are ongoing. He was treated for minor injuries.

A section of the Malahide Road was closed for examination but has since reopened.

The car involved in the incident has been removed for a technical examination.

Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact gardaí in Clontarf on 01-6664800.
