Man charged over Galway murder

A 22-year-old man has appeared before a special sitting of Ennis District Court with murder.

Gearóid Fahy with an address at Carrownamana, Ardrahan, Co Galway, was charged with the murder of his grandfather Finbar Fahy at Ballinduff, Ardrahan, on 10 November.

Judge Joseph Mangan remanded Gearóid Fahy in custody to appear before the District Court in Ennis again on 19 November.

The body of the 78-year-old retired farmer was found at his home near Ardrahan on Wednesday morning.

The results of a post mortem examination carried out at Galway University Hospital showed that Mr Fahy died from blunt force trauma to the head.
