The results of a post mortem examination carried out at Galway University Hospital today showed that Mr fahy died from blunt force trauma to the head.

A team of 60 gardaí are involved in the investigation into the murder of the 78-year-old, which they say is still in its early stages.

Investigators say, at this stage, they have found no evidence of a break-in at the farmhouse and they have not yet been able to establish whether anything was taken.

The scene remains sealed off. House-to-house enquiries are being carried out in the area.

An incident room has been set up in Gort Garda Station and anyone with information is asked to telephone 091 636432.
