The information was passed onto federal authorities before Major Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly went on a shooting spree in Texas last week.
It is unclear what federal law enforcement authorities did with the information.
Thirteen people were killed in the Fort Hood shooting.
Meanwhile the suspected gunman, a Muslim born in the US to immigrant parents, has regained consciousness and is speaking with medical staff.
Major Hasan was shot multiple times during the Fort Hood incident last Thursday.
A US Army investigation is trying to uncover whether Mr Hasan, who is believed to have been the lone gunman, snapped under the pressure of his job as an army psychiatrist or whether he was motivated by deeper convictions.
US President Barack Obama called the event a 'horrific outburst of violence' and promised 'answers to every single question about this horrible incident'.
