A 49-year-old man charged in connection with a shooting in which another man was seriously injured has been granted bail at the District Court in Limerick.

Anthony Kelly, of O'Malley Park in Southill in Limerick, was arrested after a shooting outside his home on the morning of 28 October and charged with possession of a handgun with intent to endanger life.

Gardaí objected to him being released on bail because of the seriousness of the charge and they believed he would not stand trial.

They also said Mr Kelly was a regular visitor to Lanzarote where he has a place of residence and business interests.

The court was told that his brother, Stephan who was present in court, would put up the cash surety for the bail from a redundancy payment he had received from Dell.

Judge Tom O'Donnell granted Anthony Kelly bail on his own bond of €1,000, and an independent surety of €10,000 to be approved in advance by gardaí.

He also ordered that the accused surrender his passport and not interfere with any potential witnesses in the case and the matter was adjourned until 12 November.
