Kenny prioritises protection of jobs
Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:45Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has said the protection of jobs has to be the priority in next month's Budget.
Mr Kenny said his party broadly accepted the Government's target of €4bn in adjustments in the Budget, but repeated his view that increasing taxation was not the solution.
He was speaking at the announcement of a series of meetings around the country at which the party's economics team will meet business leaders and other groups to hear their ideas on economic recovery.
These ideas will then inform Fine Gael's preparation of its own proposals in advance of the Budget, which deputy leader and Finance Spokesperson Richard Bruton described as the most crucial in a generation.
