Richie Hedderman, spokesperson for the Dublin Fire Brigade, said attacks on emergency services were generally increased around Halloween.

Earlier, the Road Safety Authority issued a safety message ahead of Halloween.

The authority has warned motorists and pedestrians to be vigilant during the weekend's celebrations.

Motorists are advised to take care, especially if they are driving through housing estates.

RSA Chief Executive Noel Brett said those dressing up need to play their part too.

Meanwhile, police in the North have seized thousands of 'bangers' and fireworks during a raid near the border in Co Tyrone.

Detectives recovered the haul in a container on the Lifford Road in Strabane this afternoon.
