House prices 25% down from peak

National house prices fell by 11% in the first nine months of this year and are now at Christmas 2003 levels, according to new figures.

National house prices fell by 11% in the first nine months of this year and are now at Christmas 2003 levels, according to the latest house price index from Permanent TSB and the ESRI.

The average house price fell by 1.1% in September to just under €233,000.

House prices have fallen by more than a quarter since their peak in February 2007.

The index shows that prices in Dublin fell by 2.1% in September, and by 1.3% outside the capital.
