The Department of Finance wants to reduce the pay bill by €1.3bn next year.

Before the meeting, union representatives reiterated that wage cuts and tax increases are not the way forward.

General Secretary of the Irish Nurses Organisation Liam Doran said that a strike planned for 24 November will go ahead, subject to completion of a ballot of all public sector union members.

Talks will resume between Union Representatives and Finance Officials tomorrow afternoon at Government Buildings.
