A range of additional garda enforcement activities will take place over the course of the coming Bank Holiday weekend.

The initiative is aimed at reducing road deaths and increasing the safety of all road users.

An extensive checkpoint operation is planned for locations across Dublin. All drivers stopped at these checkpoints will be subject to mandatory alcohol testing, according to gardaí.

Gardaí say excessive speed, drink driving and unbuckled seat belts remain the key contributory factors to death and serious injury on Irish roads.

This latest operation, they say, aims to tackle all such activities.

Cyclists, in particular, are being reminded about the potential dangers being faced by them.

Road users have also been advised that, in addition to this specific operation, other extra garda enforcement activities will be undertaken throughout the weekend.
