FG front bench backs Kenny's proposals

The Fine Gael front bench has backed party leader Enda Kenny's proposal for a referendum to abolish the Seanad and reduce the size of the Dáil.

A statement issued by the party said the front bench had endorsed the proposals unanimously.

The front bench also discussed further proposals for political reform from Deputy Phil Hogan, which will be finalised and published shortly.

However, it is expected that some opposition to the proposed abolition of the Seanad will be expressed at a meeting of the Fine Gael parliamentary party tomorrow evening.
