Bomb blasts at Pakistan university

Two bomb blasts have ripped through a university building in Pakistan's capital Islamabad.

Seven people are confirmed dead and 29 wounded after the explosions, thought to have been carried out by suicide bombers.

Pakistan has been battered by a recent spike in attacks this month, in which more than 170 people have died.

Taliban and al-Qaeda-linked militants have been blamed for a two-year campaign of suicide bombings and raids that have killed 2,280 people since security forces raided a radical mosque in the capital in July 2007.

On Saturday Pakistan launched a massive offensive against Taliban militants in South Waziristan, part of the country's lawless tribal belt on the Afghan border.

Although there was no immediate claim of responsibility for this morning's attack, Islamist militants were thought likely to step up bomb attacks to avenge the South Waziristan offensive.

Officials have said at least 98 militants and 13 soldiers had been killed since the fighting erupted Saturday in the region, and more than 120,000 civilians have been displaced.
