The Department of Education has published the first guidelines for secondary schools to help tackle homophobic bullying and support lesbian, gay and bisexual students.
The guidelines were drawn up with the help of the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network and have the backing of all the education partners.
They encourage the creation of positive visibility of lesbian, gay and bi-sexual students and the development of zero-tolerance policies on homophobic bullying in schools.
The director of education policy at GLEN, Sandra Gowran has called it a major step forward for schools that will benefit all school-goers.
