FF Senator Callanan dies in Co CorkSunday 11 October 2009 22.06
The death has taken place of Fianna Fáil Senator Peter Callanan.
Senator Callinan died at his home at Innishannon Co Cork
First elected to the Seanad in 1997, he was re-elected in 2002 and 2007.
The late Senator is survived by his wife Sheila and six children.
Taoiseach Brian Cowen paid tribute to Mr Callanan, saying he served the people of Cork with great dedication and commitment.
'As a three time member of Seanad Éireann he was a very strong champion of farmers' rights.
'His contribution both in public and behind the scenes helped raise awareness of many different agricultural issues and he was constantly pushing to make life better for the members of his community in Cork and rural Ireland in general.'
