One in ten children suffer from some form of mental health disorder severe enough to cause impairment.

According to the Health Service Executive's first report on Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAHM), the incidence of mental health disorders is increasing over time.

15-year-old adolescents are the largest group attending the CAMH services followed by children in the 10 to 14-year-age group.

Emotional and hyperkinetic problems (including ADHD) account for over half of all cases presented.

The HSE says while the demand for the service is growing, treatment waiting lists have decreased.

Almost half of all new cases referred to the service were seen within four weeks of being referred.

There are now 54 child and adolescent psychiatric teams located around the country.
