FÁS chairman will resign post
Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:01FÁS chairman Peter McLoone will resign from his position at tomorrow's board meeting of the state training agency.
The move follows controversy about lax financial controls and extravagant expenses at the State employment agency which led to the departure of former chief executive Rody Molloy.
It is understood that all board members are expected to attend.
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions also confirmed that one of its representatives - Deputy General Secretary Sally Anne Kinahan - will resign tomorrow.
However, as yet it is unclear whether the rest of the board will also resign.
The Tánaiste, Mary Coughlan, is currently preparing legislation to streamline the board, reducing its membership from 17 to 11.
Some directors are understood to be concerned that if the entire board resigns at once, FÁS will be left with a vacuum at the top until the new legislation is passed and a new board can be appointed.
