Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has denied that the Government is in 'disarray' and insisted that the McCarthy report on spending cuts has not been dropped.
Ms Coughlan was responding in the Dáil to Opposition questions that three Cabinet Ministers, including herself, were at odds with Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan over the proposed cuts.
She said significant cuts needed to be made in the Budget, but said no decisions had yet been made.
Responding to a question from Labour leader Eamon Gilmore, she said that a date for the Budget has not yet been set.
Minister for Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuív said he agreed with the Tánaiste's assertion that many of the recommendations in the McCarthy report did not make sense.
Speaking at the National Ploughing Championships near Athy, Co Kildare, the Minister said that some of the proposals were just not practical and would not be implemented by the Government.
However, he refused to say which proposals he was referring.
