A 41-year-old man has been charged in connection with a €6.5m drugs seizure in Co Meath on Thursday.

James Holland with an address at The Fuel Yard, Church Street, Finglas was charged with possession of drugs and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Mr Holland made no reply to the charges and was remanded in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court.

He was arrested after gardaí and customs officers discovered more than a tonne of cannabis resin in Dunboyne.

A second man was arrested in Carlow this morning in connection with the seizure.

Elsewhere, five people remain in custody following a separate drug seizure in Robertstown in Co Kildare on Thursday.
