Cannabis with a value of almost €8.5m has been seized at Dublin Port.
Gardaí and Customs Officers uncovered 700 kg of the drug at the port this morning.
The drugs were elaborately concealed in a consignment of flowers that had arrived by truck into Dublin Port from Holland, via Holyhead
A 47-year-old Dutchman has been arrested in connection with the seizure and is now being detained at Store street Garda Station under the drug trafficking Act.
The seizure was part of on-going operations targeting freight from source countries.
Meanwhile, 4,000 litres of liquid consisting of almost 100% pure alcohol has been seized by Revenue Custom Officers at Dublin Port.
The alcohol had the potential to create up to 20,000 litres of counterfeit spirit with a value of €570,000 and a potential loss of revenue amounting to €350,000.
The consignment, which originated in Bulgaria, arrived in a container on the ferry from Holyhead. The liquid was packed in 800 5lt drums and was described as 'car wash'.
The load had been consigned to a fictitious business address in Co Louth.
Investigations are continuing.
