Swine flu cases at summer language course
Friday, 14 August 2009 16:40Three cases of swine flu have been confirmed among Italian students attending a summer language course at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology Dublin Road campus.
The students have been quarantined at their accommodation in line with HSE regulations, according to a statement from GMIT.
They are under the supervision of two doctors who are accompanying the group throughout their stay in Galway.
The other students in the group have not attended any activities on the GMIT campus since the cases were confirmed on 11 August.
GMIT is open as normal and all appropriate precautions, according to HSE policy health advice for third-level institutions, are in place.
Meanwhile, all students attending the Gael Linn College in Machaire Rabhartaigh have left the area. Students coming back to Colásite Mhuire, in Loch an Iúir will arrive at 4pm tomorrow.
College officials there say that they hope to see the majority of the 290 students back in the area, where the course will last another week.
