The two Goal workers, 32-year-old Sharon Commins from Clontarf in Dublin and Hilda Kawuki (42) who is from Uganda were abducted from the charity's office at Kutum in northern Darfur.
Ireland's ambassador to Sudan and a team headed by the Department of Foreign Affairs are due to travel to the region where they are expected to meet with Sudanese authorities and representatives of the international authority on efforts to secure the release of the women.
Minister Martin said the identity and motive of the abductors is not yet known but there have been two recent cases in 'which kidnapped aid workers were released unharmed after a few weeks in captivity'.
He said that while he hopes 'Sharon and Hilda are freed immediately, my overriding concern is that they come to no harm'.
Mr Martin also requested that the family of Sharon Commins 'be given whatever privacy they need at this time'.
Goal chief executive John O'Shea said he was very concerned for the welfare the aid workers.
He said the women were taken from their centre in Kutum yesterday evening at 8.30pm local time after armed men forced them into a vehicle along with a Sudanese security guard.
Mr O'Shea said the guard was thrown from the vehicle as local police gave chase.
