RTÉ apology to solicitor Kieran Murphy.

On its News at One programme on the 17th of June 2009 RTÉ broadcast an item to the effect that the assets of a Kieran Murphy, wrongly described by us as a solicitor, had been frozen by order of the High Court.

This broadcast, and the subsequent publication of similar false material on the RTÉ website had the potential wrongly to suggest that Kieran Murphy, Solicitor of 86 Lower Drumcondra Road, Dublin 9 was a person involved in this case or whose assets were the subject of this freezing order.

RTÉ wishes to clarify that the court proceedings in question have nothing to do with Mr Murphy or any other solicitor.

RTÉ accepts that Mr Murphy is a solicitor in good standing who has never been involved in these or any other such proceedings.

RTÉ recognises the doubt that its broadcast and the publication of the material on its website has raised as to Mr Murphy's reputation and the damage it has done as a consequence, and apologises unreservedly to Mr Murphy for its error.
