There were stormy scenes in Lisburn as three men appeared in court charged with murdering a 20-year-old man in the city at the weekend.

Darren Roberts died in hospital after being stabbed during a disturbance near the centre of Lisburn early on Saturday morning.

There was a police presence at Lisburn Magistrates' Court as the three accused were brought in.

Diarmuid Paul Anderson, 19, from Peel Gardens in Ballinderry, David Curran, 23, from South Link in west Belfast and Stephen Alister, 21, from Rushmore Crescent in Lisburn were charged with the murder of Mr Roberts.

Mr Alister was further charged with causing grievous bodily harm to an 18 year-old youth in the same incident.

A PSNI detective told the court that Mr Curran had consistently denied the charge against him during police interviews.

They were remanded in custody to appear again on 7 July via video link.

From a group of friends and relatives of Mr Roberts sitting in the public gallery, a man emerged and ran forward to the glass partition around the dock.

He shouted at the accused as they were led away and was then removed by police.
