The former chief executive of the Bank of Ireland, who resigned in February, was paid a total of just over €3m in the year to the end of March.

The bank's annual report shows while Brian Goggin's salary had decreased to €1.17m, he also received a payment of €1.46m because he was entitled to 12 months' notice or pay in lieu of it.
