'Make your voice heard' older people urged
Wednesday, 20 May 2009Older people have been urged to 'make their voices heard' before the 5 June local and European elections.
Age Action has said voters over 65 years of age account for 17% of the electorate and are most likely to vote on polling day.
Spokesman Eamon Timmins said people should tell candidates calling to houses about the issues that are important to them.
He added that the over-70s medical card, the loss of the Christmas bonus for pensioners and the postponed funding for the Scheme of Community Support for Older People, are issues that anger older people.
