A two-year-old boy, a woman in her 40s and a man in his 70s have died following three separate road crashes.

The two-year-old was fatally injured when he was struck by a van at approximately 5.30pm this evening on Deansrath Avenue, Clondalkin, Dublin 22.

He was pronounced dead in an ambulance while being taken to Tallaght Hospital.

The road has been closed pending a forensic investigation.

The woman was killed when her car crashed on the Woodford to Portumna Road at Drumnamuckla in Co Galway at 3.45pm.

She was the only occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been taken to Portiuncula Hospital.

The road has been closed for a technical examination and diversions are place.

The man died after his car collided with a truck between Castleisland and Abbeyfeale at 2.45pm.

The accident happened on the N21 near Headley's Bridge, in Co Kerry.

The driver of the truck has been taken to Kerry General Hospital, Tralee.
