Moscow police arrested around 20 activists at a gay rights protest hours before the final of the Eurovision Song Contest was due to start in the Russian capital.
About 15 protestors at the unsanctioned rally were arrested and later police dragged away about five more protestors when they tried to speak to journalists.
Those detained included Nikolai Alexeyev, creator of the GayRussia.ru website and the main organiser of the protest, a man dressed in a bride's costume and a gay activist from the US.
