Improved redundancy offer for Visteon staff
Friday, 1 May 2009 19:48200 workers who are set to lose their jobs at the Visteon plant near Belfast have received an improved redundancy offer.
According to a spokesman for the Unite union, the deal is 10 times better than the terms put on the table by the company when it announced the factory closure last month.
Since then, workers have occupied the factory at Dunmurray on the outskirts of Belfast.
Roger Madison of Unite said the new offer includes improved redundancy terms, as well as compensation in lieu of notice and holiday pay.
Visteon is also closing its two car-parts plants in England and the new terms will also be offered to the workers there.
The company was formerly owned by Ford.
Workers in Belfast will vote on the new terms before the end of next week.
