A group of young journalists has come together to make the upcoming European election campaign more exciting and relevant to first time voters.

Over the next five weeks the 25 reporters will follow candidates on the campaign trail in all four constituencies in the Republic as well as the constituency of Northern Ireland.

Sponsored by Leargas, and supported by the European Movement and Google, the group will be writing blogs for a website entitled 'Youth Media for Europe'.

Their work will also feature on the RTÉ News website.

The journalists are aged between 18 and 23 and they see a gap in the market to reach out to people of their own age.

They aim to provide clear, engaging and informative reports and commentary for first time voters who may go to the polls on 5 June.
