Labour to focus on jobs in local elections

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore has said that jobs will be at the centre of his party's local election campaign.

Speaking at its launch, Mr Gilmore said that a vote for Labour was a vote for action on jobs, and that local authorities have a role in promoting economic development.

The party has selected 206 candidates so far.

In the last local elections five years ago, the party won 101 seats.
