The company, which has its headquarters in Ashbourne, Co Meath, produces crisps and other snacks including brands such as Tayto, Hunky Dorys and King Crisps.
Largo Food Exports employs about 250 people at its plant in the Údarás na Gaeltachta Business Park, Gweedore, and said the decision to lay off staff is due to increased competition in the market, the unfavourable Euro-Sterling exchange rate and high production costs.
Some of the work done in Donegal will be transferred to its automated production in Ashbourne.
Largo Foods says that the changes announced today are necessary if the company is to sustain and develop its business.
It says that the company will support, assist and advise its employees in every way it can at what is inevitably a very difficult time.
