Minister for State John Moloney made the announcement at the national convention of Inclusion Ireland.

He expressed confidence that patients will move there from the local psychiatric hospital and live compatibly with intellectually disabled residents from the wider community.

But the Monaghan Parents and Friends Association - which built the home - has expressed reservations about the new plan.

The Association has asked the Health Service Executive for a written list detailing who from the psychiatric hospital it is proposing should be moved into the house.
