Car bomb blast at Afghan shrineSaturday 21 March 2009 22.55
A car bomb exploded among hundreds of people celebrating the New Year in eastern Afghanistan.
Two people were killed and four wounded in the blast.
Witnesses said a red 4x4 vehicle exploded about 30m away from a shrine in the eastern city of Khost.
A policeman at the site said it appeared that a remote-controlled bomb had been placed under the vehicle that belonged to border police.
The bomb follows a suicide attack in the eastern province of Nangarhar earlier today that killed six people and wounded several more.
President Hamid Karzai condemned that bombing, which was later claimed by the Taliban.
