Device made safe in Galway

The army bomb disposal team have made safe a suspicious device at Mill Street Garda Station in Galway city.

The remains of the device have been handed over to gardaí for forensic examination.

The device was found on the person of a man in his mid 20s who was arrested in Athlone this afternoon by gardaí in Galway following the recovery of a fireman.

A second man, also in his mid 20s, was arrested in Moate.

Both men were taken to Mill Garda Station for questioning.
